L’année pastorale a été riche en événements de toutes sortes. Parmi ceux-ci, le départ de Mgr Anthony Mancini et son remplacement par Mgr Jean Fortier qui est devenu vicaire général et coordonnateur de la pastorale, l’arrivée de Mgr Lionel Gendron à la tête de l’Office du personnel pastoral et celle Mgr André Gazaille qui peut maintenant se consacrer à plein temps à sa fonction de vicaire épiscopal à la famille et aux jeunes ainsi que la nomination de Mgr Robert Sansoucy comme curé de la Cathédrale.

M. l’abbé André Tiphane a été nommé vicaire épiscopal de la région est en remplacement de Mgr. Michel Dagenais C.S.S. qui a été terrassé par la maladie et qui demeure présent dans nos prières.

Plusieurs parmi nous avons eu l’occasion de participer au Congrès eucharistique international de Québec qui s’est terminé il y a quelques jours à peine. Un événement riche de sens auquel nous nous sommes longuement préparés. Dans notre diocèse, la montée vers le congrès a été l’occasion d’approfondir notre compréhension de l’Eucharistie et de redécouvrir comment elle fait partie intégrante de notre vie chrétienne. Un travail que nous poursuivrons ensemble dans le cadre de notre mission diocésaine qui est de proposer Jésus Christ à tous les âges de a vie.

Et l’année n’est pas finie. Ainsi, vendredi soir à la cathédrale, j’aurai la joie d’ordonner deux prêtres, MM. Stéphane Roy et Francesco Giordano. Je remercie le Seigneur de nous donner ces deux nouveaux pasteurs à qui je souhaite un heureux et fructueux ministère.

De plus, dans quelques jours, 308 jeunes de notre diocèse et des diocèses environnants partiront pour Sydney en Australie afin de participer aux Journées Mondiales de la Jeunesse qui auront lieu du 15 au 20 juillet prochain. Je ne pourrai les accompagner cette année, mais je serai avec eux par la prière et la pensée. Les JMJ constituent un événement plus que signifiant dans le cheminement spirituel des jeunes qui y participent.

Enfin, il me fait plaisir de vous annoncer que nous avons recueilli jusqu'à maintenant, la somme de 1 542 815 $, dans le cadre de la collecte annuelle diocésaine. Cette somme nous aidera à poursuivre notre mission. Je tiens à vous remercier de votre collaboration et de votre grande générosité.

Mais c’est aussi l’été. Et après une année bien remplie, les derniers jours de juin nous appellent aux vacances. Ce temps de répit est attendu avec joie par toutes les personnes qui peuvent se payer des vacances ou arrêter de travailler un certain temps. Personnellement, c’est un temps d’arrêt que j’apprécierai particulièrement cet été. Il me permettra de mieux entreprendre la prochaine année pastorale.

Je vous recommande d’en faire autant. À tous et à toutes, je souhaite un bel été, de bonnes vacances. Et rendez-vous en septembre!

This pastoral year has seen many events of all sorts. Among these, the new mission of Bishop Mancini taking him to Halifax, his replacement Msgr Jean Fortier, taking over as Vicar General and Pastoral Coordinator. Bishop Lionel Gendron becoming Director of the Pastoral Personnel Office, Bishop André Gazaille now at full time as Episcopal Vicar to Family and Youth, Msgr Robert Sansoucy becoming Pastor of the Cathedral.

Fr. André Tiphane was named Episcopal Vicar of the Région Est, as he replaced Msgr. Michel Dagenais, C.S.S., taken down by a stroke and whom we continue to carry in our daily prayers.

Many among us had the occasion to take part in the Québec International Eucharistic Congress that ended only a few days ago. It was a very meaningful event to which we had given a long preparation. In the diocese, our Diocesan Mission en route to the Congress gave us the occasion of deepening our understanding of the Eucharist and of rediscovering how it is an integral part of our Christian life. We continue this reflection as we pursue our diocesan mission which is Proposing Jesus Christ today to all age groups.

And the year is not over yet. Friday night in the Cathedral, I will have the great joy of ordaining to the priesthood Mr. Stéphane Roy and Mr. Francesco Giordano. I thank the Lord for having given us these two new priests to whom I wish a happy and fruitful ministry.

Furthermore in a few days, 308 youth from our diocese and the neighbouring ones will leave for Sydney, Australia, to take part in the World Youth Day 2008 being held from July 15 to 20. I will unfortunately not be able to accompany them this year, but I will be united with them in prayer and thought. This WYD event is very significant for all the youth who take part and for their spiritual growth.

Finally, I am happy to say that we collected up to now $ 1,542,815 in this year's Annual Diocesan Collection. This sum will allow continuing our Church mission. I want to thank you all for your collaboration and great generosity.

It is summer now. And after a year full of accomplishments, the last days of June call us to relax and take a holiday. This restful time is always joyfully awaited by all those who can afford to go on a trip or, at least, to take some time off.

For me, it is a relaxing period that I will fully appreciate this summer. It will allow me to replenish my energy to better start the next pastoral year.

I hope that all of you can also take some time off to relax and enjoy life. To one and all, I wish a happy vacation time and an enjoyable summer.
