Samedi prochain, 4 avril, nous célébrerons la Journée Mondiale de la Jeunesse diocésaine. Ce rendez-vous annuel avec les jeunes est très important pour moi car il me permet de fortifier mon espérance dans l’avenir de l’Église.
Pour cette XXIVe JMJ, le Pape Benoît XVI nous a invite justement à réfléchir sur le thème de l’espérance : « Nous avons mis notre espérance dans le Dieu vivant. » (1 Tim 4, 10). L’espérance est au cœur de notre vie. Comme chrétiens, comme humains, nous ressentons le besoin d’une espérance ferme et fiable. La jeunesse est un temps de la vie où l’on regarde vers l’avenir avec ses attentes, avec ses souhaits, avec ses désirs de sens à la vie. Je vous invite à lire le message que le Saint-Père a adressé aux jeunes du monde entier à l’occasion de la Journée Mondiale de la Jeunesse 2009.
Notre rassemblement jeunesse diocésain débutera à 13 h par une animation en trois volets à la Mission catholique chinoise située près du Métro Place D’Armes. Un premier volet destiné aux adolescent(e)s francophones sera animé par Mgr André Gazaille en collaboration avec la Bande FM. Le groupe des adolescent(e)s anglophones sera animé par le groupe Youth for Christ et Father Gerald Westphal. Quant aux jeunes adultes, ils bénéficieront d’une animation bilingue avec l’abbé Stéphane Roy et Father Thomas Dowd.
Par la suite, les jeunes se rendront en procession à la Basilique Saint’Patrick pour la bénédiction des Rameaux, avec Mgr Lionel Gendron, avant de se remettre en marche vers la Cathédrale Marie-Reine-du-Monde où je les attendrai pour la célébration eucharistique de 17 h. Quel que soit votre âge, j’espère avoir l’occasion de vous voir à la Cathédrale. Ce sera un moment de prière privilégié, un premier pas vers la prochaine JMJ internationale qui doit avoir lieu à Madrid en 2011.
Le rassemblement diocésain de Journée Mondiale de la Jeunesse est le résultat du travail d’une grande équipe sous la coordination de Mission Jeunesse. À tous ceux et celles qui rendent cette activité possible, je veux dire merci. À samedi!

Mission Chez Nous a été créé par l’Assemblée des évêques catholiques du Québec afin de venir en aide aux communautés chrétiennes en milieu amérindien et inuit. Chaque année, grâce aux dons reçus, l’organisme apporte un soutien aux prêtres et aux équipes pastorales qui partagent la vie et les préoccupations de ces communautés. Next Saturday, April 4, we will celebrate World Youth Day in our diocese. This yearly youth gathering is very important to me; it nourishes my hope in the Church’s future.
For this 24th World Youth Day, Pope Benedict XVI has invited us all to reflect on hope: “We have put our hope in the Living God” (1 Tim: 4,10). Hope is at the centre of our lives. As Christians and as humans, we feel this need for hope, both strong and assured. Youth is a time of life when one looks to the future with a lot of hopes and desires, in search of the meaning of life. I invite you to read the Pope’s message to the youth of the world for the celebration of World Youth Day 2009.
Our diocesan gathering will begin at 1 p.m., starting with a threefold animation at the Chinese Catholic Mission, near Métro Place D’Armes. The activity for French-speaking teens will be facilitated by Bishop André Gazaille with the group “La Bande FM”. The English-speaking teens’ animation will be under the direction of the “Youth for Christ” group with Father Gerald Westphal. As for the young adults, they will be able to take part in a bilingual activity presented by Fathers Stéphane Roy and Thomas Dowd.
Following these animations, the youth will march to St. Patrick’s Basilica for the blessing of the palms, conducted by Bishop Lionel Gendron, and then continue their walk to Mary Queen of the World Cathedral, where I will be waiting to preside at the 5 p.m. Eucharistic celebration with them. Whatever your age, I hope to see you at the cathedral. This will be a privileged prayer moment and a stepping stone toward the next International World Youth Day, which will be held in Madrid in 2011.
This diocesan gathering is the work of a large team, co-ordinated by Mission Jeunesse/Youth Ministry. I wish to thank all those who make this activity possible. See you Saturday!

As we near the end of the Lenten period, I would like to bring to your attention an organization with which I have been associated as president, since its foundation in 1991, Mission Chez Nous.
Mission Chez Nous was created by the Quebec Assembly of Catholic Bishops to help Christian Communities in First Nations and Inuit areas.
