Demain soir, j’aurai la chance de témoigner mon appréciation aux prêtres qui célèbrent cette année un 25e, un 50e ou encore un 60e anniversaire d’ordination presbytérale. Je tiens beaucoup à cette activité annuelle qui me permet d’exprimer ma reconnaissance et mon admiration pour la générosité dont ils font preuve dans leur engagement sacerdotal. Avec eux, je partage la mission de proposer Jésus Christ et, cette année, je partage leur action de grâce car, comme vous le savez, j’ai été ordonné prêtre il y a cinquante ans.

Je saisis cette occasion de fête pour offrir mes vœux à tous les diacres qui célèbrent en 2009 un anniversaire d’ordination ainsi qu’à toutes les personnes de vie consacrée dont c’est l’anniversaire de profession religieuse. Je veux les assurer de ma reconnaissance pour leur apport essentiel à la vie de notre Église.

En terminant, je vous invite à vous joindre à moi pour célébrer la fête patronale diocésaine qui aura lieu dimanche prochain, le 31 mai à 19 h 30, à la Cathédrale Marie-Reine-du-Monde. Nous profiterons de l’occasion pour souligner la contribution remarquable des fondateurs du Catéchuménat de Montréal à l’occasion du 40e anniversaire de la fondation de l’organisme. Nous rendrons également hommage au président et à tous les membres de la St. Patrick Society of Montreal à l’occasion des 175 ans d’existence du regroupement. De plus, les abbés André Tiphane, Igino Incantalupo et Gilles Bissonnette deviendront Chapelains de Sa Sainteté (C.S.S.).

Tomorrow evening, I will have the pleasure of showing my appreciation to those priests who are celebrating their 25th, 50th or 60th anniversary of ordination. I look forward to this annual event because it gives me the opportunity to express my gratitude and admiration for the great generosity these fellow priests have shown throughout their ministry. They are partners with me in the mission of proposing Jesus Christ to the world, and this year, I embrace the spirit of thanksgiving with them since, as you probably know, I am also celebrating my 50th anniversary of priestly ordination.

During this time of celebration, I would like to offer my best wishes to all the permanent deacons who are celebrating jubilees during 2009 as well as to all members of religious communities who are marking similar anniversaries of religious profession. I want to convey my gratitude to them for their much-needed contribution to the life of our diocesan Church.

Finally, I wish to invite you to join me in the celebration of our patronal feast day, which will be held this Sunday, May 31st, at 7:30 p.m., at Mary Queen of the World Cathedral. On that occasion, we will also highlight the remarkable contribution of the founders of the “Catéchuménat de Montréal” as they celebrate the 40th anniversary of their founding. We will also salute the president and members of the St. Patrick’s Society of Montreal on the occasion of the society’s 175th anniversary. Last but not least, Fathers André Tiphane, Igino Incantalupo and Gilles Bissonnette will receive monsignorial appointments as “Chaplains of His Holiness – C.S.S.”.
