“I was sick and you visited me” Matthew 25:36

For more than twenty years the Archdiocese of Montreal has offered a service of spiritual accompaniment for sick and elderly persons in their own homes under the name SASMAD, or as it is known in English: Pastoral Home Care. This diocesan service is confidential and free and is made available thanks to the visits of many volunteers who have received a specific formation. The growth of this service is made possible through financial aid provided by “Les Amis de Jeanne Mance” in partnership with the Archdiocese of Montreal.

The Service offers…

·         Home visits for spiritual or religious accompaniment, according to the expressed needs of the person being visited.

·         A respectful and comforting presence.

·         Attentive listening.

·         An eye to what is most essential, always respecting the dignity of the person, their beliefs and customs.

·         A privileged moment to welcome their personal “story”.

·         An opportunity to respond to the need for reconciliation: with themselves, with others and with God.

Who can ask for spiritual accompaniment?

·         Sick persons

·         Elderly persons

·         Community organizations

·         Family and caregivers

·         Workers from the health care or social service networks.

·         Anyone who is aware of a need for spiritual accompaniment.
