Resignation of pope Benedict XVI

During the period of the Vacancy of the Holy See, which begins on Thursday, February 28, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. (EST), it is appropriate that Mass "For the Election of A Pope" be celebrated in all diocesan places of worship, as found in the Roman Missal, page 1238.

The homilist might also use this time to draw attention to the relationship between the local and the universal Church, and the participation through prayer and worship of all the faithful the world over in the selection of a new spiritual leader for God's people.
