Montreal

The Communications team is pleased to hereby present a summary of the bishops’ 2016 pastoral manifesto, “The Missionary Shift of Christian Communities”, which was a response to Pope Francis’ apostolic exhortation on the New Evangelization, “The Joy of the Gospel”.

The Catholic Church in Montreal launched last September a “construction” initiative meant to build vibrant, mission-driven parish communities. By 2021, the archdiocese expects to have an action plan ready to help the Catholic Church in Montreal make what the Quebec bishops are calling a “missionary shift”..

The readiness to do so stems from the bishops’ 2016 pastoral manifesto, The Missionary Shift of Christian Communities, which was a response to Pope Francis’ apostolic exhortation on the New Evangelization, The Joy of the Gospel. The Communications team is pleased to hereby present a summary.

“Montreal is missionary territory…and it is time to rebuild, to transform, to be renewed” says the archbishop, Christian Lépine. “In the past, the mission of evangelization took place elsewhere, not here”, he notes. “Now it is here”, he says. “I believe that is a good thing because to be on a mission in in the very nature of the Church, in its DNA”.

From our family to yours, we wish you blessings for the New Year.
