Regional Ecclesiastical Tribunal of Montreal
Do you have any doubts about the validity of your marriage?
Would you like to formalize your marital status in accordance with Catholic Church doctrine?
Do you wish to obtain peace of mind?
Anyone has the right to ask the Catholic Church to examine the validity of their marriage by filing an application for nullity of marriage.
The Tribunal's mission is to accept each request and to process it in accordance with Church law.
In certain situations, the Church may recognize the nullity of a marriage. In such cases, the Tribunal finds that the marriage was never validly entered into because an essential element was missing at the time of the exchange of consent.
The Tribunal is interdiocesan. It hears applications for nullity of marriage from the dioceses of Montreal, St-Jean-Longueuil, St-Jérôme-Mont-Laurier, Valleyfield, St-Hyacinthe, Sherbrooke, Joliette, Nicolet, Rouyn-Noranda and Gatineau-Hull.
The Tribunal is made up of judges, defenders of the marriage bond, notaries, ecclesiastical lawyers and auditors: all committed to serving justice and the law in the Catholic Church.
