Who is benefiting from the Church's holdings under the current circumstances? Are plans afoot for vacant or underused spaces - land or buildings - to be transformed to serve new uses in the context of the climate crisis?

By Louise Royer, Director of the Social Action Ministry Office

As part of the Religious Heritage Days event, a meeting to discuss this question will be held Sunday, September 12, at 12:00 noon at the church of Saint-Édouard.

In fact, this past June, the conseil Église et Société launched a tool for Christian communities to use in their reflections on the issue: Crise climatique et patrimoine religieux: un nouvel outil de réflexion. Since then, the Centre de ressources sur la non-violence has documented a number of innovative uses that have already been explored, as well as hiring a firm of architects to present papers on six potential uses. These tools, as well as an account of the transformation of the presbytery of Saintt-Édouard, will be presented briefly during the meeting, allowing for a discussion.

The meeting is organized as part of the Religious Heritage Days event and is the fruit of a collaboration with the diocese’s Social Action Ministry Office.
