Montreal

On Saturday, May 25, the parish of St-Antoine-Marie-Claret celebrated the official launch of the Good Shepherd catechesis atrium for children ages three to six. This is the first atrium of its kind in the French-speaking sector of our diocese.

During the event, we had a guided tour of the atrium, a space specially designed for children where they receive the Word of God, learn about liturgy, and practice prayer.

The event included three presentations and activities to introduce us to the pedagogy of this catechesis, conducted by:

  • Paola Azzuolo, catechist and trainer of the Good Shepherd catechesis
  • Marie-Christine Herling-Gervais, pastoral agent at this parish
  • Lucie McElligott, former Associate Director at the Office for Faith Education - English sector, now serving as catechist for the Good Shepherd catechesis program

The Good Shepherd catechesis is based on the pedagogy of Maria Montessori, further developed by Sofia Cavaletti. This approach takes into account the spiritual needs and growth of children. Catechists aim to foster a connection between the child and Jesus through a welcoming environment and personalized support in the awakening of faith.

If you are interested in this experience, training sessions for catechists, RSE, and pastoral agents will be held in July 2025. Please see the attached document for more details.

An open house will take place on Saturday, June 22, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the parish of Saint-Antoine-Marie-Claret, located at 10660 Larose Avenue, H2B2Z3.

For more information, you can contact Marie-Christine Herling-Gervais at 514-388-4050 extension 202 or by email at mariechristine.herlingervais@gmail.com.

On the English-speaking side, atriums have existed for several years in the following parishes: Saint Ignatius of Loyola, Saint John Fisher, Maria Ausiliatrice, Monte Carmelo, and the Orthodox Church of Saint Michael and Archangels.
