As COVID-19 restrictions continue to be eased across the country and churches gradually welcome parishioners back in person, the Sunday liturgy offers nourishment for prayer and reflection throughout the entire week – whether we are meditating on the readings, praying together with our families or participating at Mass within our faith communities.

Pope Francis releases the prayer intention for the month of August, inviting everyone to work for a transformation of the Church - a work that begins with “a reform of ourselves” through an experience of prayer, charity and service, inspired by the Holy Spirit.

On the morning of August 4, 2020, Mrs. Hashem, a 75-year-old widow living in a modest apartment in downtown Beirut, made the decision to take her daughter to visit her son in a nearby village.  A few hours later, the blast from the Port of Beirut severely damaged her apartment, making it unliveable. Had she stayed home, she and her daughter would most likely have been killed, along with 200 other people who died on that day.  Instead, she became one of 300,000 people that found themselves homeless. 

Archbishop Christian Lépine will celebrate the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary at the 12:15 p.m. Mass on Sunday, August 15, at Mary Queen of the World Cathedral.
