October is Missionary Month. This is a time for the Church to highlight the importance of the missionary commitment shared by all the baptized, as well to bring attention to the many associated projects of evangelization. World Mission Day, initiated by Pope Pius XI in 1926 and entrusted to the Pontifical Society for the Propagation of the Faith, represents the culmination of the month.

This is a special day of prayer and fund-raising celebrated each year on the second last Sunday of October in support of the various initiatives carried out by the Pontifical Society for the Propagation of the Faith.
