A National Honour for a Life of Remarkable Service

The Archdiocese of Montreal is pleased to join in celebrating the conferral of the Medal of the Order of Canada upon Sister Pierre Anne Mandato, a distinction that honours an exceptional journey dedicated to education, healthcare and solidarity. The investiture ceremony took place on March 19, 2026, at Rideau Hall.

A member of the Congregation of the Sisters of Charity of Sainte-Marie, Sister Pierre Anne Mandato has left an enduring mark on every community she has served. Through her leadership, her deep sense of vocation and her humanity, she has helped build institutions rooted in meaning and centred on the dignity of each person.

At École Marie-Clarac, her contribution was decisive in the school's growth and development. Under her direction, the institution expanded significantly and gave rise to a number of foundational initiatives, including the establishment of the Marie-Louise Clarac Foundation and the introduction of innovative educational programs fostering both excellence and the integral flourishing of students.

Her commitment extended equally to the field of healthcare. At Hôpital Marie-Clarac in Montréal-Nord, she played a meaningful role in several significant undertakings, among them the opening of a palliative care wing, a space of accompaniment marked by compassion and respect for the dignity of each patient.

Beyond Quebec, Sister Pierre Anne Mandato took an active role in numerous international initiatives, supporting projects in education and healthcare for vulnerable communities around the world. Her involvement reflects a constant commitment to those most in need and a deep desire to build a more just and caring world.

This national recognition is not only a tribute to her life's work, it is a source of inspiration for our entire Church. It recalls the power of a commitment lived in faith, poured out in service to others.
