As part of the festivities surrounding Montreal’s 375th, a play produced by l'Espace Benoît Lacroix, in collaboration with the Archdiocese of Montreal, will be presented on May 19 and 20, at Villa Maria High School.

Was it folly or wisdom that inspired the "Montréalistes" to found Ville-Marie in 1642? 375 years later, a drama club of students and young adults takes on the story of the founding mothers and fathers: Jeanne Mance, Paul de Chomedey, sieur de Maisonneuve, Jérôme LeRoyer de LaDauversière, Marguerite Bourgeoys, the Filles du Roy, and the recruits who sailed from France...

In between rehearsals, the cast questions, discusses and reshapes time and space. Their contemporary setting meshes with the past, and the narrative navigates through current events and history, comedy and reflection. The "folle entreprise" of Jeanne and Paul dialogues with today's diversity, as the cast members revisit their roots... and found Montréal anew.

Please note the play is in French with English surtitles.
