International

This year marks a significant milestone for two ecclesial institutions with which our diocese has maintained close ties: both are celebrating 150 years of dedicated service to the Church.

The Catholic Institute of Paris (ICP)

Founded in 1875, the Catholic Institute of Paris (ICP) has firmly rooted itself in its community and, over the decades, has continually adapted its academic programs to address the evolving needs of the contemporary world.

We in our diocese have had the privilege of partnering with this distinguished institution—most notably through the Recension canonique, a freely available online research tool that serves scholars and the faithful alike.

To mark its 150th anniversary in 2025, the ICP is publishing two commemorative volumes and has launched a dedicated website for the celebration.

The Faculty of Canon Law at the Pontifical Gregorian University

In 2026, the Faculty of Canon Law at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome will celebrate its own 150th anniversary. Each year, the faculty welcomes students from around the world. Many of its graduates return to their home countries to serve in diocesan tribunals, chanceries, or in theological education.

Here in Montreal, numerous priests have been formed at the Gregorian, and their ministry reflects a canon law education deeply rooted in the Church’s mission: to make law a service of ecclesial communion.

To honour its sesquicentennial, the Faculty will host an international congress in October 2026.

A Shared Breath of Communion

Celebrating the anniversaries of these ecclesial institutions is more than a commemoration—it is a recognition of their lasting influence and a prayerful hope that they will continue to form and inspire men and women committed to building communion within the Church and in the world.
