Montreal

Notre-Dame-des-Neiges Cemetery sincerely thanks all family members of the deceased who visited their loved ones on May 14, 2023. This has been the most popular day of the year for many years, and Mother's Day 2023 honored the tradition.

From the opening at 9:00 a.m. until the closing at 3:00 p.m., on a very sunny day, family members of the deceased flocked in large numbers to visit their loved ones and many were welcomed beyond the established schedule and exited more than two hours after the originally scheduled closing time in order to accommodate more families, some of whom had come from far away.

Despite the many off-limits areas, the vast majority of visitors were able to pay their respects at their loved ones' graves, place flowers, and sometimes even plant new seasonal plants, move branches and do some gardening.

To ensure the safety of all during the day, in addition to the information available on the cemetery's website, a document was given to each visitor, who was greeted upon arrival by a cemetery representative, to help identify open and closed areas, accessible paths, as well as safety instructions to be followed.

Throughout the day, the vast majority of visitors respected the safety instructions and demonstrated great citizenship, caution and patience, for which we sincerely thank them.

Overall, Mother's Day went well at the Cemetery. The thousands of visitors enjoyed their visit, despite the constraints of tree damage, and there were no accidents.

As for the ongoing negotiations, we share the Minister of Labour's desire for the parties to reach an agreement as quickly as possible and we are working with the appointed conciliator to achieve this.
