Montreal

A time of prayer, presence, and solidarity
On Saturday, February 7, 2026, the Diocese of Montreal invites the faithful, the sick, family members, caregivers, and volunteers to gather for the diocesan celebration of the 34th World Day of the Sick—a spiritually rich occasion rooted by compassion, prayer, and a spirit of Christian solidarity.

A deeply human theme: “Compassion — Loving by bearing the pain of the other”
This year’s celebration unfolds under the theme “Compassion — Loving by bearing the pain of the other,” a call to acknowledge the reality of human suffering and to share it with love and solidarity. The theme echoes the Holy Father’s message for the World Day of the Sick, inviting the Church to cultivate a concrete closeness to those who are ill, vulnerable, or burdened by suffering.

Program of the day
The event will take place at Saint Isaac-Jogues Church (1335 Chabanel Street East, Montreal), with a schedule designed to allow participants to enter fully into a meaningful spiritual experience:

  • 9:30 a.m. – Welcome and gathering of participants, followed by a time of fellowship
  • 10:00–11:30 a.m. – Prayer service including the Rosary, Eucharistic Adoration, and meditation
  • 10:00–11:45 a.m. – Opportunity for the Sacrament of Reconciliation and the Anointing of the Sick
  • 12:00 p.m. – Solemn Mass with Archbishop Christian Lépine of Montreal as celebrant
  • 1:00 p.m. – Fraternal meal offered by the Les Amis de Jeanne-Mance Foundation

To facilitate access, a free shuttle service will depart from Sauvé metro station at approximately 9:15 a.m.

A moment of faith, listening, and shared hope
Celebrated each year on February 11, the World Day of the Sick coincides with the Memorial of Our Lady of Lourdes, a day especially dedicated to prayer for the sick, their families, and all those who care for them. This diocesan gathering offers the local Church an opportunity to come together in a shared journey of faith, hope, and compassion—rooted in attentive presence and communal prayer.
