Montreal, January 4, 2023 – You are cordially invited to take part in a Eucharistic celebration for Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI, presided over by Archbishop of Montreal His Excellency Msgr. Christian Lépine. The Mass will be held at 7:30 p.m., Monday, January 9, 2023, at Mary Queen of the World Cathedral, located at the intersection of René-Lévesque Blvd. W. and Mansfield St.
“Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI was an outstanding figure for the Catholic Church. He was an expert theologian and a good shepherd who was always simple, open and caring. He was a great witness for this Church, whose work is to proclaim Jesus Christ and maintain a dialogue with the contemporary world,” stated Archbishop Lépine, currently in Rome to attend the funeral Mass for Pope Benedict XVI, who died Dec. 31.
The Mass will also be livestreamed on both the Diocese of Montreal’s Facebook page and YouTube channel.

Funeral service
The funeral service for Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI will be held at St. Peter’s Square on Thursday, January 5, at 9:30 a.m., Rome time.
This funeral Mass, presided over by Pope Francis, will be historically significant, since at no time in the history of the Church has a Pope previously presided over the burial of his predecessor.
