A Message from Archbishop Christian Lépine for Share Lent 2026
Montreal
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
In Jesus Christ, “Steadfast love and faithfulness will meet; righteousness and peace will kiss each other” (Psalm 85:10). As this Lenten season unfolds, I invite you to journey on track for justice and solidarity, so that in the 34 countries where Development and Peace – Caritas Canada works, the love for the poor—the love that flows from the heart of Jesus—may be made tangible.
Economic uncertainty and reductions in international development aid call us to respond with greater solidarity. The health and even the lives of millions of people are at stake. We remain mindful of needs both locally and globally. Throughout the year, we commit ourselves through prayer, informed engagement, and financial support. During Lent, we open our hearts especially to our brothers and sisters in countries marked by poverty. I am proud to note that last year, you responded generously to this call, and I encourage you to continue along the same path this year.
The Share Lent campaign, which began on Ash Wednesday, will conclude with the collection on the Fifth Sunday of Lent, March 22. In the Archdiocese of Montreal, we are blessed to count on the active involvement of members and staff from Development and Peace – Caritas Canada to carry the campaign forward. This year, we are especially pleased to welcome a youth ambassador, a new addition to the initiative.
May Jesus Christ, who identified with the poor, guide us along the way of justice, solidarity, and peace. May Mary, standing at the foot of the cross, inspire our compassion. May God bless you.
† Christian Lépine
Archbishop of Montreal
