Message from the Archbishop of Montreal – Thanksgiving 2025

Montreal
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
As we celebrate Thanksgiving, let us turn our hearts to God in gratitude. This feast draws on an age-old tradition of giving thanks to God for the harvests that sustain our lives. Each day, God fills us with His goodness—through the gift of life itself, through family and work, and through the faces, gestures, and generosity of those around us. Gratitude opens our eyes to His presence, even in the midst of challenges.
As Scripture reminds us: “Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” — 1 Thessalonians 5:18
It can be easy to forget God. Thanksgiving weekend offers a special opportunity to pause and remember Him, rich in Mercy, who never ceases to bless us abundantly. Let us live this gratitude in our families and in our communities. May this weekend be a time of rest and peace, of sharing and prayer.
Let us join in Christ’s own thanksgiving at Sunday Mass. Through our joys and sorrows alike, may we continue to give thanks to God—for life, for faith, and for the beauty of the community we share.
Wishing you and your loved ones a blessed and joyful Thanksgiving.
† Christian Lépine
Archbishop of Montreal
