Montreal

In 1993, Pope John Paul II issued an Apostolic Blessing declaring the 2nd Sunday in February as World Marriage Day in the Church.

It's a special day dedicated to prayer for all married couples, engaged couples and those around them. It's also an opportunity to give thanks to all those who have joyfully responded to the Lord's call by saying "I do!" in the sacrament of marriage.

How Can We Celebrate This Day?

  • Invite spouses to give a testimony of their vocation at Mass or to young people.
  • Organize a prayer vigil for spouses (current, engaged, considering marriage)
  • "Adopt" engaged couples: commit to praying for couples preparing for marriage on a daily or weekly basis
  • Encourage couples to consider marriage
  • Recognize the longest-married couple at Mass
  • Propose a renewal of marriage vows (at mass or during a family celebration)
  • Organize a celebration of fidelity: suggest celebrating jubilees at mass (1, 5, 10, 15... years of marriage)
  • Ask the priest or deacon for a special blessing of the spouses at a mass
  • Talk about the wedding day with friends and family and in the parish
  • Share resources (prayer, image, etc.) on social networks

The Diocesan Centre for Marriage, Life and Family is pleased to announce the Worldwide Marriage Day Mass, in partnership with Worldwide Marriage Encounter, on Saturday, February 10, 2024, at 5 p.m. This bilingual Mass will be presided over by Father Robert J. Gendreau at Queen of the World Cathedral and will be simulcast on the Diocesan of Montreal YouTube channel.

We will be praying for couples and families!  Thus couples attending this Mass will be invited to renew their marriage commitment and receive a special blessing for their intention. Welcome to all !

We look forward to seeing you on February 10.  May the New Year 2024 bring peace, hope and love!
