Pope Francis's Penitential Pilgrimage to Canada

To those gathered in St. Peter’s Square for the Angelus on Sunday, July 17, Pope Francis spoke of his historic visit to Canada (July 24 – 29) as a “penitential pilgrimage.” He asked that the faithful pray for him. He will need it, because the organizing committee had only two months to prepare for this trip. Not to mention the latest COVID-19 surge and the uncertain state of health of the aging Pope from Latin America. On doctor’s orders, he was forced to cancel two pastoral visits to Lebanon and Africa due to the knee pains that have affected his mobility.
Appointment of Fr. François Charette as Director of the Office for Pastoral Personnel and Episcopal Vicar for Pastoral Personnel

The Archdiocese of Montreal announces the appointment of Fr. François Charette to the position of Director of the Office for Pastoral Personnel. He will take up his new responsibilities as of August 8, 2022, along with those of Episcopal Vicar for Pastoral Personnel.

The Indigenous Reconciliation Fund Board of Directors is pleased to announce that the Fund is officially accepting proposals and distributing funds for projects in support of healing and reconciliation. Projects are determined locally in consultation with First Nations, Métis and Inuit Peoples, and the first proposal received approval on July 15, 2022.

Pope Francis has appointed Msgr. Frank Leo as Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Montreal, the Holy See announced today, memorial of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. Following his episcopal ordination, the new bishop will join the auxiliary bishop currently assisting the Archbishop of Montreal, Most Rev. Alain Faubert, in serving the faithful of the Archdiocese.
