On the 3rd Sunday in September, the Christian dioceses and communities in Quebec are invited to celebrate the annual Catechetical Sunday. This year, a particular suggestion is being made to the communities, to experience an intergenerational catechesis.

This gathering can be held on this occasion as well as at any other time. Activity and timeline suggestions for this gathering can be found in the documentation prepared for this Catechetical Sunday.

This year's theme-What are you talking about ON THE ROAD? - evokes a question that Jesus asked that appears in two of the Gospels. Jesus asked it to the disciples of Emmaus (Luke 24:17). He had asked it to his first disciples in the Gospel passage selected for this 3rd Sunday in September: "What were you arguing about on the way?" (Mark 9:33) .

By asking this question today, the theme for this Catechetical Sunday makes it resonate with the issues that lie at the heart of our contemporary concerns. The theme brings to light a journey that begins with conversations between people from varying generations about what concerns them on an existential level: "Today... what are we talking about on the road? What importance are we placing on questions about meaning and on God's presence on our paths?" (Cf. message from Bishop Paul Lortie, President of the Assembly of Québec Catholic Bishops).

Posters and leaflets illustrating the Catechetical Sunday theme are available at the Office de catéchèse du Québec. Documentation is available free of charge in PDF format here.
