This year, Religious Heritage Days will be held during the weekend of September 8, 9 and 10, with churches open for you to visit, lectures, concerts and guided tours to attend, all waiting for you at no less than 41 churches across the Archdiocese of Montreal.

Religious Heritage Days are a key event at the outset of the fall season. Held each year on the weekend following Labour Day, they are organized by the Quebec Religious Heritage Council. This year marks our sixth edition and includes 215 registered places of worship in Quebec, 41 of them parish churches and religious sites in the territory of our Diocese, open for the visiting! That figure represents close to 20% of the program for all of Quebec. 

The inspiration behind this event is the desire to feature the finest of our religious heritage, with participating parishes opening their church doors and coordinating activities and presentations. Come enjoy our Religious Heritage Days and discover this rich and varied heritage through music and exhibits, tours and visitor circuits - and everything completely free of charge.

If you enjoy tours, three will be offered in Laval; please note that you must register for these to reserve your spot. The first will be held on Friday, September 8. You will tour three modern churches, accompanied by Jasmin Miville-Allard, General Director of the Société d'histoire et de généalogie de l'île Jésus. First stop is Saint-Claude Church, followed by Saint-Pie-X, and finally the church of Saint-Noël-Chabanel. The second tour takes place Saturday, September 9 and will focus on stained glass, with art historian and stained glass specialist Ginette Laroche leading a guided visit of three churches: first stop Saint-Jean-Gualbert Church, followed by Saint-Théophile and Saint-Ephrem. Finally, on Sunday, September 10, we invite you to discover the prolific architect Victor Bourgeau (1809-1888), with a first stop at Saint-Vincent-de-Paul Church, followed by Sainte-Rose-de-Lima and ending at Saint-Martin Church. You will be accompanied by art historians Paul Labonne, Vicki Onufriu and Jasmin Miville-Allard. A great opportunity to learn more about the history of Laval's various parishes! 

If lectures are your preference, presentations on Saturday and Sunday, offered in the nave of Sacré-Coeur-de-Jésus Church, will be your opportunity to learn more about the role that bells have played in the Catholic Church, as you discover this church’s five great bells, with acoustic illustration provided by the church organ. 

Saint Raphaël-Archange Church on l’Île Bizard welcomes photography lovers to its exhibit on Friday and Saturday, September 8 and 9. At 1:30 pm, art historian Monique Lanthier will present a lecture on a little-known jewel, the Apothéose de Jeanne d'Arc by Ozias Leduc, a work commissioned by the parish in 1921.  

And lastly, Saint Joseph's Oratory will offer a guided tour of its Garden of the Way of the Cross, combining spiritual history and reflections on issues of conservation.
