Jubilee

Wednesday, April 16 at 7:30 p.m. — Mary, Queen of the World Cathedral

As part of the Jubilee Year 2025, the Church invites us to become pilgrims of hope, walking together in the light of the risen Christ. In this spirit, the Archdiocese of Montreal invites all the faithful to the Chrism Mass, celebrated by Archbishop Christian Lépine, on Holy Wednesday, April 16 at 7:30 p.m., at Mary, Queen of the World Cathedral.

The Easter Triduum will begin with the blessing and consecration of the oils and the Holy Chrism, a powerful sign of the presence of the Holy Spirit in the sacramental life of the Church. During this celebration:

  • The oil of the catechumens will be blessed to strengthen the faith of those about to be baptized.
  • The oil of the sick will be blessed to bring relief and consolation to the body, soul and spirit of those who suffer.
  • Holy Chrism, solemnly consecrated, will be used for the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Holy Orders. Through this anointing, the Holy Spirit marks with its seal consecrated persons and liturgical objects, such as altars, crosses, chalices and icons.

The Chrism Mass manifests the unity of the entire diocesan Church around its bishop. It brings together bishops, priests, deacons, consecrated persons and lay faithful in the same prayer. On this occasion, priests and deacons solemnly renew their priestly promises.

Come and pray, fraternize and celebrate the living hope that unites us as the People of God.

As our Archbishop reminds us:

“It is in this joyful and confident hope that, before commemorating the Passion and Resurrection of the Lord, we shall gather for the Chrism Mass.”
