Jubilee

As Holy Week approaches, young people from across Montreal are preparing for an unforgettable day of faith, celebration, and community. On April 12, 2025Holy Spirit Day (Journée de L’Esprit Saint) and the Palm Saturday Walk (Marche des Rameaux)  will offer a meaningful pilgrimage experience that marks the beginning of this sacred week.

In this spirit of jubilee — a time of renewal, gratitude, and celebration — young people are not just participants; they are protagonists. From the early planning stages to the final moments of the day, this event exemplifies how youth can lead with purpose. Guided by the dynamic collaboration of the Mission Jeunesse Network, which unites a variety of gifts, charisms, and talents, this pilgrimage of hope is a practical school of leadership and discipleship.

Young People Leading the Way

The Jubilee theme reminds us of the importance of returning to the heart of our faith and walking together in joy and solidarity. For the over 320 volunteers involved, this event is not simply an opportunity to serve but a chance to grow in leadership, responsibility, and teamwork. Whether supporting animation, hospitality, or logistics, these young leaders are putting their faith into action, discovering their own capacity to inspire and guide others.

By organizing an event of this scale, they are learning the art of accompaniment and collaboration — essential qualities for discipleship in today’s world. Every logistical challenge faced, every joyful encounter shared, and every decision made becomes a step in their journey of growth. They are living the Church’s mission, empowered to be witnesses of hope in their communities.

This unique event, planned by young people, for young people, is an initiative of the Mission Jeunesse - Youth Ministry Network, which brings together a vibrant network of leaders and volunteers united by their diverse gifts and charisms. Volunteers have enthusiastically dedicated their time to ensure the day is filled with joy, hospitality, and smooth logistics — a true testament to the generosity and dynamism of our community.

A Witness of Faith in the Heart of the City

The pilgrimage begins at Saint Joseph’s Oratory. Young confirmands and their godparents will gather with the Archbishop at the Basilica, while teens, young adults, and the general public will meet at the crypt. After a time of prayer and worship, both groups will unite on the grounds of the Oratory to receive their palms and embark on the walk to the Cathedral.

The pilgrimage will lead participants through the heart of Montreal, before reaching the Cathédrale Marie-Reine-du-Monde. Carrying palm branches and proclaiming their faith publicly, the young people will offer a visible and powerful witness of hope and unity.

A Pilgrimage for the Whole Family

While the day has been shaped by the enthusiasm of the youth, it is truly an event for the entire diocesan family. Parents, siblings, friends, and parish communities are warmly invited to join the pilgrimage. Walking together, the faithful of Montreal will journey from one sacred space to another, symbolizing the unity and diversity of the Church.

Joy and Anticipation in the Air

Excitement among the young people is palpable. From the planning committees to the volunteers on the ground, the spirit of collaboration has brought together countless hands and hearts. Every act of service, whether through hospitality, animation, or logistics, reflects a desire to contribute to something greater — a day that will remain in the memories of all who participate.
