The Sisters of the ⁠Congregation of Notre-Dame gathered in Montreal from July 12 to 23 for their 99th General Chapter, a significant time for discernment, reflection, and governance held every five years. At the conclusion of this meeting, the Congregation announced the election of its new leadership team, which will guide its mission for the next five years.

Following virtual meetings held in April, May, and June, the Chapter took place at the Congregation's Mother House in Montreal, with Sisters from the various regions of the world where the community is established in attendance. Associates also participated in the first few days of the meeting.

The General Chapter is the highest decision-making body of the Congregation. It allows for a review of the previous term, the discernment of the directions that will guide the mission for the years to come, and the election of a new leadership team.

Under the theme “Becoming One Congregation. For a Future Full of Hope and Joy," this 99th edition is part of a transformation process undertaken for several years. The Congregation is continuing its reflection on adapting its governance structures to the current realities of religious life, while renewing its commitment to its mission of liberating education. This journey also includes a process of decolonization aimed at contributing more fully to "the humanization of the world."

On July 22, the Sisters of the Congregation of Notre-Dame joyfully and gratefully announced the election of their new leadership team.

The new team is composed of:

-Leader of the Congregation: Ona B. Bessette, CND

-Assistant to the Leader of the Congregation: Martha Lucía Pérez Gutiérrez

-Councilors:

• Karen Kelly, CND
• Lucie Mekoulou Me-Zambo
• Sandra Margarite Sierre Flores
• Susan Kidd, CND

This team will serve a five-year term. The official date of its commencement will be announced later.

At the conclusion of this General Chapter, the Congregation entrusts its new team to the intercession of ⁠Saint Marguerite Bourgeoys, foundress of the Congregation of Notre-Dame, that she may accompany it in the pursuit of its mission, in service to the Church and the Gospel, with hope and joy.
