General

Yes, the subtitle reads ‘‘Week’’ not just ‘‘Sunday.’’ This year, once again, the diocese of Saint-Jean-Longueuil, with the help of its partners, has organized their festival of the Word of God, which will take place from January 21 to 30, 2022.

From the Diocese of Longueuil (In-house translation)

The theme of this year’s festival is taken from the story of the sinful woman who anoints the feet of Jesus with ointment in the house of Simon the Pharisee (Luke 7:36-50). Christian tradition has not recorded her name, but her act is recounted in the three synoptic Gospels. By showing her great love for Jesus, the woman witnesses to her overwhelming gratitude for the greater love that embraces her and which always comes first: the love of God.

This year, most of the activities during the Week of the Word of God will be offered online, but some will be in person, depending on the locality.* While all activities are free of charge, participants must register to take part. The Week of the Word of God 2022 is the product of a collaborative effort by the diocese of Saint-Jean-Longueuil and its partners: the diocese of Chicoutimi through its Institut de formation théologique et pastorale; the Société catholique de la Bible; and the dioceses of Montreal and Joliette.

Brief background:

The diocese of Saint-Jean-Longueuil has been organizing the Week of the Word of God since 2003. Originally a local Brossard initiative based on a concept proposed by Mme Francine Vincent, by 2008 the scope of the organization had come to comprise the diocese of Saint-Jean-Longueuil. Then, two years ago, other partners came on board. For more information about the background of the organization, watch the Sel et Lumière video at:  https://youtu.be/nnLbuKZl1Bc (In french only)
