Since 2020, the Church celebrates the Sunday of the Word of God on the third Sunday of Ordinary Time. Based on Pope Francis's Apostolic Letter "Aperuit Illis" from September 30, 2019, this designates the third Sunday of Ordinary Time for celebrating, studying, and spreading the Word of God.

The theme for the fifth Sunday of the Word of God, observed on January 21, 2024, is "“Remain in my Word” (John 8,31)." The Dicastery for Evangelization has crafted a guide with practical suggestions for experiencing this day in parishes, families, and with young people.
