Montreal

One year following the publication of the encyclical "Fratelli tutti," the Office for Consecrated Life and the Social Action Office of the Archdiocese of Montreal wish to invite all persons in consecrated life and those involved in social ministry to join them for a virtual meeting: the Carrefour "Fratelli Tutti - For a Culture of Encounter".

The Carrefours proposes an approach comprising three steps:

  1. During the summer, a survey was sent out to those involved in order to gather their views on what Pope Francis has called "the shadows over a closed world." The intention was to become more familiar with the various efforts being pursued in our territory towards fraternity and social friendship;

  2. A videoconference on October 8: based on the responses to the survey, participants will be invited to share their various experiences in small group settings, in order to develop their understanding of the calls to serve better;

  3. The Carrefours Fratelli Tutti will conclude with a Eucharistic celebration on Saturday, October 23, held from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., at the Sanctuaire Marie-Reine-des-Coeurs.

The general aim of the Carrefours Fratelli Tutti is to spark the desire to familiarize ourselves with the encyclical and to develop our efforts in line with its recommendations, highlighting and celebrating the commitment of those in consecrated life and of those active in diocesan life who are working to achieve "fraternity and social friendship." In a nutshell, we will be listening for "the sound of a forest growing," rather than just "the sound of a tree falling."

The event is one part of the overall continuation of the diocesan worksite, in progress since 2018, whose aim is to facilitate our transition from a Church on hold to a Church with a mission.  It is also part of the synodal process launched September 13 by Archbishop Lépine.
